About Poyntons Butchers
At Poyntons, tradition is at the heart of everything we do. As a family-run butcher in the heart of Conwy, North Wales, we’ve earned our reputation through quality, trust, and an unwavering passion for exceptional Welsh produce. Our PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Beef and Lamb status is your seal of guaranteed excellence.
Whether you visit our shops in Llandudno or Old Colwyn, or order through our home delivery service, you’ll enjoy Welsh Black beef and lamb reared on the lush pastures of the Conwy Valley, along with our own cooked meats, flavour-packed sausages, juicy burgers, and irresistible handmade pies. For something truly special, both our shops feature beef-aging cabinets to bring out the very best in flavour and tenderness.
As proud members of the National Craft Butchers, we’re committed to keeping those traditions alive – and serving you the very best.

Established 1652
Poyntons Butchers was originally established in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, with roots as farmer-butchers dating back to around 1652. The business remained in Ashby until the late 1800s. Years later, our grandfather opened a butcher’s shop in Leek, Staffordshire, where he and my father ran the business together for many years. After leaving school, I joined my father in the shop, which today is home to Leek Oatcakes.

1979 we moved to Wales
In the 1960s, as many of the mills were closing in Leek, my family moved to Wales, and I eventually followed. I went on to purchase the shop we still operate today in Old Colwyn, where we've now lived for over 45 years. In 1984, we expanded by acquiring a business on Gloddaeth Street in Llandudno. We've since successfully relocated to our current premises at 14 Cae Bach, Builder Street. The business is now proudly run by my son, Darren, continuing the family tradition.
